A major breakthrough in Ghana’s fight against persistent power outages, commonly referred to as “dumsor,” is on the horizon as US-based engineers from Pileus Ghana Investment (PGI) unveil plans for a 500-megawatt solar energy and storage project.
[pdf] The wind park, initially launched in 2022 with an annual generation capacity of 155 GWh, has integrated a utility-scale energy storage system to enhance grid stability, for which Hoymiles has supplied essential components, including 3,450 kW Power Conversion System (PCS) containers on the AC side and 3.44 MWh battery containers on the DC side.
[pdf] The project, considered the world's largest solar-storage project, will install 3.5GW of solar photovoltaic capacity and a 4.5GWh battery storage system. The project has commenced in November 2024.
