NamPower, Namibia's state-owned power utility, has signed a contract with a Chinese joint venture to build the first utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in the country and the Southern African region.
[pdf] One of the US’s largest solar + battery storage projects is now fully online in Mojave, California. Arevon Energy ’s Eland Solar-plus-Storage Project combines 758 megawatts (MWdc) of solar with 300 MW/1,200 megawatt hours of battery storage.
[pdf] As of 2020, solar generation accounts for around 20% of Namibia's total power generation. In terms of capacity, solar PV has increased from around 20 MW in 2015 to around 150 MW in 2020 (note that this includes both utility scale and rooftop solar PV).
