The project, the main objective of which is to provide greater storage capacity for imported diesel fuel, fuel oil, jet fuel and gasoline, consists of the following components: a) Extension of Port Neves storage facilities; b) Establishment of storage facilities on Principe; c) Establishment and expansion of distribution facilities; and, d) Technical Assistance, particularly with respect to the procurement of petroleum products, as well as management capabilities.
[pdf] The project, owned and operated by AES Distributed Energy, consists of a 28 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) and a 100 MWh five-hour duration energy storage system. AES designed the unique DC-coupled solution, dubbed “the PV Peaker Plant,” to fully integrate PV and storage as a power plant.
[pdf] The project had capital costs of over $2 billion and is one of the largest solar-plus-storage projects in the United States. The Eland solar project has a total nameplate capacity of 758 MW of solar paired with a 300 MW, 1,200 MWh battery energy storage system.
