Most inverters reach their peak efficiency when operating at 50-90% of their rated capacity. During bright, sunny days when your solar panels are producing lots of power, your inverter might be working at full capacity.
[pdf] High quality sine wave inverters are rated at 90-95% efficiency. Lower quality modified sine wave inverters are less efficient - 75-85%. High frequency inverters are usually more efficient than low-frequency. Inverter efficiency depends on inverter load. Figure 11.8.
[pdf] Most modern inverters have efficiency ratings between 90% and 98%. Let’s break it down: If you feed 1000 watts of DC power into your inverter and it outputs 950 watts of AC power, your inverter efficiency is 95%. The other 50 watts were lost in the conversion process—mostly as heat.
