Atlas Renewable Energy started up Latin America's largest standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) in Chile's Atacama desert. The Desert BESS plant can store up to 800 MWh of solar energy to be injected into the Chilean power grid during times of high electricity demand.
[pdf] The Thornsberry BESS project near Tullamore has received planning consent and grid connection approval, enabling 120MW import/export capacity to the national grid. Once operational, the system could supply backup power for 115,000 homes for up to two hours.
[pdf] The project will be developed at BEL’s property behind the BEL Substation on Pescador Drive, San Pedro, and is slated for completion by 2026. This project aims to strengthen the island’s power supply, ensuring greater reliability and sustainability for the community of San Pedro.
